On 27th August 2020, KENRA issued authorization to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH) approving the architectural drawings for the proposed Integrated Molecular Imaging Centre (IMIC). IMIC will house a nuclear medicine facility and Medical Cyclotron for production of Fluorine – 18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). The authorization allowed KUTRRH to proceed to the next stage in the development of the IMIC.
KENRA followed a systematic review process of the architectural drawings and consultative engagements with the IMIC project implementation team and the contractor and vendor of Cyclotron, GE Healthcare.
FDG is most commonly used for tumour, cardiac, and brain imaging, and to detect infection.
