Dr. Ahmed Salat Fankey

Ahmed S. Fankey is a retired public servant from Geothermal Development Company under the Ministry of Energy, having served as HoD in the departments of Quality Assurance and Safety and Corporate Planning and Strategy for twelve and half years. He has been instrumental in the development of strategic Plans, business plans, resource mobilization, and coordination of performance contracting activities as well as stakeholder engagement in GDC among other roles.

Prior to this, Mr Fankey worked with the Ministry of Health as a Public Health Officer in different capacities having served as District Public Health Officer in various districts and provincial Public Health Officer respectively for over 18 years before venturing into politics. Cumulatively, Ahmed Fankey has an experience of over thirty-three (33) years in the public service before retiring in 2023.

Pursuing a PhD in occupational Health and Safety Management, Ahmed has published a number of thesis including but not limited to “Hazards associated with Occupational Health Activities in Menengai Prospect, Kenya” as well as “Factors that Influence the spread of Diarrheal Diseases in Barwaqo Location, Wajir District” respectively. Ahmed has a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management (Msc. OSH) from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Health Science from Kenyatta University, a Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences from the College of Health Professions and a Certificate in Epidemiology and Control of Communicable diseases from the University of Nairobi in collaboration with Kenya medical Training College and the World Health Organization. In the 33 years of service, he has gained vast and exceptional experience through capacity building in technical and leadership trainings such as Environmental Impact Assement/Audit, Strategic Leadership Development programme (SLDP), Senior Management Course, Environment Management Training Course at Eldoret University in collaboration with Galilee International Management Institute, Israel, Financial Management of Development Projects, Democracy and Governance, Training Of Trainers Course (TOT), Proposal Development, ISO QMS and Performance Appraisal training , ISO Coordinators training (Kebs) and Disaster Management (KRCS) among others.

He is a member of the Environmental Institute of Kenya (EIK), a member of the Association of Public Health Officers (APHOK), a registered Lead Expert in Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit (EIA/A) and a registered Safety Auditor with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection
