The Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KENRA) and United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) convened a consultative meeting to explore ways of strengthening collaboration in regulatory matters related to nuclear safety, nuclear security, legal and regulatory framework.
The meeting was presided by KENRA’s Chairman, Prof Eratus Gatebe and Haimanot Yilma of USNRC, attended by KENRA’s DG, Mr. Joseph Maina and technical officers from KENRA and AdSTM.
KENRA and USNRC agreed to hold further meetings to provide clarity and detail on specific areas of enhancing cooperation. Emphasis on human capacity building, development of regulations and regulatory documents as well as regulatory infrastructure. USNRC will conduct topical workshops in regulation of nuclear power program, emerging technologies in the medical and industrial sectors and nuclear safety and security.
